Sophomore swimmer Laura Lindsay was named the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday after her performances in the Rockets 159-135 victory in their regular season finale at Buffalo last Saturday. Lindsay finished in first place in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke with NCAA “B” qualifying times of 1:02.36 and 2:16.13, respectively. She was also part of the first-place 200 medley relay team (1:43.22), which turned in its’ second-best time of the season.
“This is really exciting and it blows me away, but honestly I don’t swim for awards, I swim for my team,” Lindsay said. “I’m just trying to get better and focus on a good taper. I think I’m swimming well technically, and I just want to finish out the year strong.”
In addition to being a member of eight first-place medley relay teams, Lindsay has competed 21 times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke this season and has come out the victor in all but two. The Rockets are undefeated (7-0) against Mid-American Conference opponents this year with an 11-2 mark in dual meets, their only losses coming at the hands of Michigan and Ohio State.
“This is a great honor for Laura and indicative of her hard work,” Toledo Head Coach Lars Jorgensen said. “She has a bright future ahead of her. ”
Toledo next competes at the MAC Championships at Miami (OH) University in Oxford, Ohio, which will take place Feb. 24-27.
