Students in attendance of Hollywood Sex Squares can now say what the record number of female orgasms is in one hour.
The event, held Tuesday night in the Doermann Theatre, focused on sexual education and prevention.
According to Stephanie Gurgol, a junior majoring in criminal justice and president of Resident Student Associaton, the purpose of the event was twofold.
“It seems organizations are hesitant to put on programs that are sex-themed until spring and we wanted to make sure such an important issue was addressed earlier,” she said. “We also want to make sure students are having fun and have a different program to attend.”
The way the game was played is similar to that of the old game show Hollywood Squares. There were nine “celebrities” who represented the squares.
The panel of celebrity judges was comprised of many faces familiar to UT students, including Jessica Merritt, director of student involvement, Mary Martinez, hall director of Carter Hall, Jared Rose from the Aids Resource Center Ohio, Alexis Blavos, UT’s Alcohol, Tobacco and drug specialist, “Magnum” of Blue Crew, Cathy Vue, the graduate assistant hall director of the Crossings, Matthew Rubin, UT student government president, Tamara Clark, the Associate Director of Residential Education and Captain Julie Rightnowar of the UT Police Department.
Contestants were called up on stage when the number on their raffle ticket was called and represented the two teams- X’s and O’s. The contestants of a team would choose a celebrity to answer a question, and then decide whether to agree or disagree. If the contestants were correct they won the square, three in a row means tic-tac-toe and they won.
The winning team was awarded “sex friendly” prizes such as body paint, body whip cream, edible underwear and condoms to name a few. There were also raffles for prizes such as gift cards and shirts.
Magnum said the idea of having students come out and get an education helps promote school spirit.
“It was very educational and a lot of fun. I learned a lot of things I didn’t know before. I will definitely practice safer sex after this,” said Damon Drew, a sophomore majoring in psychology. “Since it was such weird questions, I learned a bunch of fun facts and useful things too. I will definitely be safer after this- I learned how careful you have to be with condoms.”
Drew said his favorite question was one on the list not asked — What is the origin of the ‘F’ word? He said it is an acronym from England meaning Fornication under Consent of the King.
Throughout the event, students were offered a free twenty minute HIV test, available through Aids Resource Center Ohio.
Laurie Cohen, Development Officer at ARCO, said that she did believe students would practice safer sex after the event.
“That is the purpose- abstinence is number one, but we know it’s not always going to happen so we want them to practice safe techniques, be safe, use condoms and have knowledge. We’re about prevention and education and that’s what this program is about.”
During an intermission between games, the audience was involved in a discussion about the myths and facts about HIV, STDs and pregnancies. They were also taught the proper storage and application of condoms.
